I have had the pleasure in recent times of reading the Hive as a NewBee and have just registered. I realised when I was reading a number of articles that the use of HI/I2/E is not common but it has been recognised that it has been used extesively in Aust. This is corresct as it was the first process that I used. Tracking down the Hypo was the initial dilemna similar to others trying to find RP. Not only was hypo ellusive, but the blackmarket cost was $3,000 a litre. After many months of searching I finally heard of a person who knew how to make it. for the expandment of knowledge I offer this recepie as a tried and true method to make hypo. Ingredients Sodium Hypophosphite Sulphuric Acid Distilled Water Amberlite (LR 100) Polyerster filling. Equipment 1600 x 40 mm PVC Pipe 40 mm PVC Pipe tap fitting Hot plate Pyrex dish 2 lg mix bowls 5lt Catchment jar Set up Put polyester filling into end of PVC pipe Glue PVC Tap onto PVC Pipe Put 1 kg Amberlite into column Process 1. Distill 1 kg sodium hypophosphite to 3 lt distilled water 2. Dilute 600 mls sulphuric acid to 2.5 lts distilled water 3. Into PVC pipe pour 500 mls Sulphuric Acid + Water mix leave for 20 mins. Drain. 4. The pour 600 mls distilled water. Leave for 20 mins. Drain. 5. Repeat 2 + 3 6. Pour 600 mls distilled water x 4 drain. 7. Pour into PVC pipe 450mls Sodium Hypo + Water mix leave for 20 mins, but this time retain the drained material in catchment jar. 8. Pour into column 400 mls distilled water drain into same jar. 9 evaporate down to 350 mls not exceeding 80 degrees. 10. You now have approx 66% hypophosphorus acid at a cost of approximately A$40 a litre. ![]() Such is life "Ned Kelly" 1880 |

nice method. too bad hypophosphorous salts are just as watched as hypophosphorous acid. If pacman influenced us, we'd glide around dark rooms eating pills and listen to repetitive music. |
